Photovoltaic solar module size changes

Despite the twists and turns of the epidemic, the very resilient photovoltaic industry has still produced a brilliant half-year report.According to statistics from China Photovoltaic Industry Association, the output of polysilicon, silicon wafers, cells and components in the first half year on year increased by 32.3%, 19%, 15.7% and 13.4%, respectively.On the application side, data from the National Energy Administration showed that the installed capacity of photovoltaic power was 11.52GW in the first half of the year, basically the same as that of the same period last year (11.4GW).
Behind the industry's steady rise lie fierce technological iterations.During the period of the 13th Five-Year Plan, the industry experienced the battle of life and death caused by the Diamond line and PERC technology, thus setting up an unprecedented sensitive sense of smell for various efficient technologies.One of the hottest technologies in the industry right now is "size".

From 2013 to 2019, with the support of PERC and PERC+(SE, MBB, and half chip) technologies, the pv module power will rise from about 320W to more than 400W.However, as the efficiency of PERC cells approaches the "ceiling", it becomes more difficult to improve the power of the components, so increasing the size of silicon wafers becomes one of the new ideas.

In the second half of 2018, the traditional size of 156.75mm(M2) was overturned. Jinko led to push 158.75mm(G1) silicon chip.In June 2019, Longji shouldered the banner of 166mm(M6) silicon wafer, and then in August, 210mm(M12) silicon wafer was smashed in Central, opening.

The expansion of silicon wafer size causes the power of components to jump instantly.It is reported that under the condition that the battery conversion efficiency remains unchanged at 22.3%, the power of M2 component is 395W, the power of G1 component is over 400W, the power of M6 component is up to 440W+, and the power of 210mm component starts the 500W era.

From the perspective of production line renovation, the 166 production line can be compatible with the original production line, namely the M2 production line. As soon as it was launched, it attracted a lot of followers, such as Silicon chip end Longji, Saiwei, Tongwei, Runyang Yueda, Lu 'an Solar energy, Tangshan Haitai and so on.Components such as Ja, Atz, GCL Integration, Zhengtai New Energy, Serafu, China Energy Saving, Aerospace Electromechanical, Jinzhou Sunshine, etc.
The 210 production line, just as the mainstream of the industry called "subversion" when M12 silicon wafer was just launched, the production line of enterprises had to be completely demolished and started all over again. The time cost and investment cost of the new production line made many enterprises discouraged.
However, as expected, the 500W component power is very attractive to downstream plant owners, which directly accelerates the pace of the companies to follow.In December 2019, dongfang risheng was the first to release a 500W high-efficiency half-chip module based on 210mm silicon wafers.In January 2020, The world's first 210mm high-efficiency solar cells of Aixuko Technology Yiwu Base were announced, and 5GW 210 high-efficiency batteries were officially realized in mass production.In February 2020, trina solar first adopted 500W+ supreme components of 210mm silicon wafer in the world;In March 2020, Dongfang RISHeng and TrINA Announced the mass production of 500W components successively...
Skepticism has accompanied the rapid advance of the 210 component, which has raised eyebrows in the industry.On the one hand, limited by the height of containers and glass capacity, 210 components adopt 5*10 column version, which, according to the analysis of industry insiders, not only fails to give full play to the advantages of 210mm silicon wafers, but also increases the cost of odd-column packaging.
In May 2020, the three major components of Ja, Jinko and Longji successively launched the components based on "18X" silicon chip.In the view of the three giants, 18X is the optimal size to realize the highest efficiency and power of components. Based on the "18X" silicon chip, the highest power of the latest components (type 72) of Ja, Jinko and Longji respectively reaches 545W, 535W and 540W, which is greatly improved compared with 210 components.
